How to Pay Your WSIB Premiums in Ontario

If your business is registered with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), it’s essential to keep your premium payments up to date.
These payments ensure you and your workers are protected in the event of a workplace injury and help you avoid interest charges or penalties.

In this guide, we’ll explain what WSIB premiums are, when they’re due, and how to make your payments online step by step through the WSIB portal.

1. What Are WSIB Premiums?

WSIB premiums are the mandatory contributions that Ontario businesses pay to fund workplace injury insurance coverage.

Your premium amount depends on:

  • Your industry classification or risk category.

  • The insurable earnings you report for covered workers or owners.

  • The WSIB premium rate assigned to your sector.

Premiums are calculated and paid based on your payroll reporting period — monthly, quarterly, or annually.

2. How Often Do I Pay?

Your payment frequency depends on your business size and premium volume:

  • Small businesses: usually pay quarterly.

  • Larger businesses: pay monthly.

  • Low-volume accounts: may be allowed to pay annually.

📅 Example of quarterly reporting deadlines:

  • January to March → due in April

  • April to June → due in July

  • July to September → due in October

  • October to December → due in January of the following year

3. Available Payment Methods

WSIB offers several payment options depending on your preference:

🔹 A. Online Payment Through the WSIB Portal (eServices)

This is the most convenient, secure, and recommended method.
Below is a step-by-step walkthrough of how to make your payment using the WSIB’s online system and its official payment provider, Paymentus.

  2. Go to “Pay Bills.”

  3. Search for “Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)” as the payee.

  4. Use your 7-digit WSIB account number as the reference.

💡 Tip: Add WSIB as a saved payee for faster future payments.

🔹 C. Pre-Authorized Debit

You can set up automatic withdrawals so that your premiums are paid on their due dates.
This can be arranged directly in your WSIB eServices account or by submitting the pre-authorized debit form.

🔹 D. Cheque or Money Order

If you prefer, you can still send a cheque to:

Workplace Safety and Insurance Board
P.O. Box 4115, Station A
Toronto, ON M5W 2V3

Be sure to include your WSIB account number on the cheque.

4. Tips to Avoid Penalties

  • Always submit your payroll reports before the due date.

  • Review your account regularly in WSIB eServices.

  • Keep copies of payment confirmations and receipts.

  • If you’re struggling to make payments, contact WSIB to set up a payment plan.

5. What If You Have No Active Employees?

Even if you have no employees for a period, you must still file a Payroll Report showing $0 in insurable earnings.
This prevents WSIB from issuing estimated assessments or penalties.

6. View Your Account Statements Online

Through your WSIB eServices account, you can:

  • Review payment history and account balances.

  • Download invoices and payment confirmations.

  • Update your banking or contact information.

  • Access clearance certificates for compliance verification.
